Genetic counselling is the process through which a person with an increased risk of or the person who is at risk for passing on a genetic disorder, here we will discuss different aspects of such disorders as well. Genetic counselling refers to the process through which an individual learns about the genetic aspects of a disease that has affected himself or his family members either before or after birth. Genetic counselling is the process where a trained professional educates a patient about the genetic risks involved in their illness.
 
Genetic counsellors help patients and families make informed decisions about genetic testing, interpret test results and communicate the implications of the result. Patients may also want to talk with their family members about whether they should be tested. Genetic counsellors are trained as both genetic and healthcare professionals. They can help you make informed decisions about genetic testing, interpret test results, communicate the implications of the results to you and your family, and refer you to other services that will support you going forward. The genetic counsellors create a comfortable and secure environment for our clients to address the initial concerns with medical genetics testing. As a genetic counsellor, you’ll help clients assess their risk of inheriting a particular genetic condition, and provide information for many other aspects of family building and genetic screening. As a genetic counsellor, they will help provide you with support and understanding advice while you're coping with your results of genetic testing.
 
The Graduate Diploma in Genetic Counseling program runs over 2 semesters per year. They take the students on a journey to look at real-life scenarios and businesses through the eyes of a business owner; giving students first-hand experience with the development of new ideas, inspiration, determination, and motivation. Students will also choose from 4 (10 unit) courses each semester to study toward an overall total of 80 units of study. The Graduate Diploma program includes 4 courses that require at least a pass grade to complete. The Graduate Diploma consists of 4 courses in Semester 1 and 4 courses in Semester 2, totalling 80 units. You must pass all 8 courses to obtain your Graduate Diploma. This program starts in Semester 1 and runs for two semesters, offering students the chance to enrol in four courses each semester. The overall total of units you study will add up to a total of 80. All courses are worth 10 units each, so you can expect to gain more than just theoretical knowledge about your chosen subject. The Graduate Diploma is a great option if you are looking to further your career but don’t want to commit to a full Masters. It gives you the flexibility of choosing 4 courses each semester and combines the best of both worlds
Students will be required to complete 10 units of study each semester.
