The multidisciplinary team of experts at the Ocular Biochemistry section is working on biochemistry, immunology and genetics of eye diseases. In particular, we focus on the cellular effects of cytokines in the uveal tract and oncogenes as critical factors for tumour development in the eye. We are also studying molecular defects in inherited progressive glaucoma and inherited rare subtypes of glaucoma. The projects are carried out by specialists in clinical ophthalmology and human genetics, using advanced genetic and biochemical techniques. The Department of Ocular Biochemistry's primary research is focused on the study of biochemistry, immunology, genetics and ocular tumours' biology. The department established animal models of cytomegaly (coloboma) and Ocular Muscular Atrophy.
