To be trained as a consultant, trainees must spend at least two years in acute paediatric neurology, one year in Neurodisability, six months in adult neurology, and three months in child psychiatry. Trainees should spend at least two years in acute paediatric neurology, one year in Neurodisability, six months in adult neurology, and three months in child psychiatry before starting on a teaching sub-speciality. Trainees must spend a total of four years in training, including at least two years in paediatric neurology, one year in Neurodisability, six months in adult neurology, and three months in child psychiatry. The two-year paediatric neurology training is followed by a one-year clinical attachment in the Neurodisability team. Doctoral Studies are carried out by some different students. Some students work on an existing idea or project while others develop their research topic. A PhD student will spend time broadly training in the full range of basic medical sciences available within the department and intensify their focus in one specialist area, for example, clinical or laboratory medicine. Students conduct their PhD project under the direction of their principal supervisor, with additional teaching and guidance provided by a second supervisor.

The Neuropsychology Postdoctoral Fellows’ Training Program provides a program for neuroscience graduate students who are interested in a career as a Clinical Neuropsychologist.
