Obstetric medicine, or maternal medicine, is a subspecialty of Internal Medicine and Gynecology that treats women throughout their childbearing years. Obstetricians focus on the overall physical health of women, from adolescence through menopause, as well as on the long-term effects of pregnancy and childbirth. Obstetricians are trained in the surgical procedures of ovariectomy, D&C and salpingectomy. Obstetricians and gynaecologists are physicians who deliver babies and take care of a woman's reproductive health before, during, and after pregnancy. Obstetricians, also known as maternal-fetal medicine specialists, are doctors who specialize in the medical care of pregnant women and their unborn babies. Obstetric medicine is the art and science that seeks to prevent and to better maternal and newborn outcomes. Obstetric specialists follow the evolution of women’s reproductive health from adolescence until menopause, focusing on the link to family planning, regular physical assessment, screening, prevention, diagnosis, and infant and maternal welfare. This area of medicine focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of medical conditions relating to pregnancy and childbirth. A doctor who specializes in obstetric medicine is called an obstetrician/gynaecologist (OB/GYN).  Obstetricians are highly trained doctors that specialize in pregnancy, birth, and women’s health. 

PDF in obstetric medicine the students learn about research and will complete a research project in the area of medical problems in pregnancy. With assistance from one of our faculty mentors, you'll present the findings at a national meeting and publish them in a peer-reviewed journal. As a fellow, you will have the opportunity to work with mentors who have active, productive research protocols and a commitment to participating in academic meetings. Under the assistance of a faculty advisor, your work will be presented at a national meeting and publishable in a peer-review journal. Fellows will complete a research project in their area of interest and present their work at a national meeting. The work will be published in a peer-review journal.
Our fellows are highly trained women who are actively involved in the study of problems related to pregnancy. Fellows are encouraged to take an active interest in the care of their patients, and also participate in teaching, research, and publishing. We offer you the opportunity to conduct original research in areas relating to maternal-fetal medicine.

The eligibility criteria is an MD/ MS/ DNB degree from an MCI recognized institute. The candidate should be under age 45 years of the year of admission. The selection is based on interviews by a committee appointed by the university. A post-doctoral fellowship is a one-year appointment at the end of medical school, during which you will earn extra training in the field of obstetrics. The doctoral fellowships are open to medical graduates holding either an MBBS or MD degree from an MCI-approved medical school. To begin your career in obstetrics, apply for the one-year post-doctoral fellowship and build a foundation to help women through childbirth.
