Family medicine is a faction of medical specialities dedicated to overall health care for individuals of all ages. The practitioner is named a family doctor or family physician. Family practice is a division of family medicine that contributes persistent and extensive health care for the person and family across all conditions, sections of the body, generations and genders. Family physicians are usually fundamental or primary care physicians. It is based on the understanding of the subject in the setting of the family and the society, stressing illness inhibition and health advancement. The World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA), suggests that the family medicine branch strives to procure individual, continuing and comprehensive care for the subject in the circumstances of the family and the society. A policy to render affordable, convenient and adequate health and illness attention to all the residents of the land is an essential need of the nation and should be based on a solid framework of fundamental care and family and general medicine. A well qualified family medicine doctor with a specialist degree can deliver some much needed development in health service distribution by extending combined medical attention at a more economical charge than what is priced today. 

MD Family Medicine usually centres on attending to subjects of all generations and is involved in finding different techniques of diagnosis of complicated illnesses. The main subjects of study in the program include internal medicine, geriatrics, psychiatry, dermatology and std, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynaecology, anesthesiology, diagnostic medicine, community medicine, professional duties and ethics, medicolegal problems and responsibilities etc.
MD-Family Medicine is a 2/3 year full time course whose eligibility is an MBBS degree and a mandatory 1 year internship/house surgeoncy from any institution recognized by the Medical Council India (MCI). MD Family Medicine helps pupils to conduct research projects in the domain of medicine and can advance their career as a doctor in this field. This program is suitable for those individuals who want to help others in need and control complicated ailments. On the successful assessment of this program, numerous possibilities arise for scholars such as they could become a General Physician, Teacher/ Lecturer, Physiologist, Consultant, Casualty Medical Officer etc. After finishing the MD Family Medicine course, scholars will be able to work in the aforementioned designations in organizations like All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS), govt. medical colleges , NGOs and health care organizations
