What is MSc Medical Pharmacology?

The abbreviation M.Sc stands for Master of Science, a 2-year long postgraduate programme in Medical Pharmacology and is an ordinary post-graduation course offered by pharmacy colleges affiliated to institutions like All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) National Institutes of Health (NIH), etc. The curriculum for M.Sc in Medical Pharmacology is based on the guidelines of the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) and the code of ethics laid down by the Pharmaceutical Society of India (PSI). While several scientific disciplines are taught as part of the course, students can choose their optional stream. Candidates who secure admission in the above courses should have passed their graduation examination from any recognised university with not less than 60% marks (relaxable to the candidates belonging to SC/ST category only) for general and OBC candidates; 55% for SC/ST candidates. This course aims to impart knowledge about the use of drugs to treat people suffering from various disorders. This M.Sc Medical Pharmacology course also teaches the different medications available in treating such conditions and how these medications are given for maximum effectiveness. The M.Sc Medical Pharmacology is a Postgraduate course conducted in departments or institutes of Medical Education, Medical Science and Biotechnology. It is offered by the colleges affiliated with the Universities and approved by the Medical Council of India for imparting clinical OPD and case-based learning coupled with ultrasound, CT/MRI, X-ray and other investigations under expert faculty supervision. This programme aims to equip the students with various aspects of Medical Pharmacology that may be helpful for clinical practice, teaching and research.

Course Details

The Medical Pharmacology (M.Sc) program is an integrated course in medical pharmacology with two years of on-campus learning, clinical rotations, and an off-campus elective 1-year research project. The program provides exposure to various aspects of the human system and equips students with the requisite competence to face the challenges involved in research, clinical medicine & healthcare.
