The course initially covers the topics of anatomy, physiology, and psychology of sports which talks about the functioning of the muscles and their biochemistry, the role that minerals such as calcium, vitamin D, proteins, and other hormones play in the control of muscle generation. The different types of exercise (aerobic/anaerobic) and various exercise programs, different training regimes for improving performance, and their role in the psychology of an athlete. It then covers topics such as exercise and sports concerning chronic disease and populations, injury prevention, rehabilitation and returns to exercise, common sports injuries and investigation and management and rehabilitation planning of sports and exercise-related injuries, and the multidisciplinary teams in exercise and sports

The diploma in sports medicine can be carried out as a post-graduate degree that would require the minimum eligibility of an undergraduate degree in medicine or other sciences from a recognized central or state board. A diploma in sports medicine would provide plenty of career opportunities. Most sports teams are accompanied by physicians.
