This Diploma in Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprosy, also known as DDVL is a two-year diploma course that studies the disorders of the skin, its appendages, and STDs (or sexually transmitted diseases). The course aims to train interested students to be able to, in a professional capacity, diagnose, manage and treat disorders and diseases, like leprosy, cosmetic or dermatological diseases, common skin diseases, or sexually transmitted diseases. Research prospects include the study and development of treatment and medications to manage leprosy. Lucio leprosy is a new form of the disease that has been researched, and the therapeutic efficacy and safety of oral tranexamic acid and that of tranexamic acid local infiltration with microinjections in patients with melasma is another study that is under progress. 

A graduate is expected to successfully be able to attend to medical emergencies that are related to the skin, and also attend to venereal diseases and leprosy. The student is also expected to be able to adopt preventive measures at a community level or even at an individual capacity against such diseases which can often be communicable as well. They will be qualified to assist medical or paramedical faculties with the necessary knowledge and laboratory skills to improve awareness and officiate treatment in the occurrence of a breakout. In its essence dermatology is that field of medicine that studies everything related to the skin. This specialty takes medical surgical approaches. A person who studies dermatology is expected to be able to manage diseases related to skin, hair, nails, and other cosmetic issues. Venereology is a branch of medicine that studies the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases. It is usually studied in combination with dermatology. Venereal diseases can be bacterial, viral, fungal, or parasitical. Diseases such as the HIV infection, syphilis, gonorrhea, herpes, etc are some examples. Leprosy is a serious, bacterial disease that occurs from the long-term infection of the mycobacterium leprae. Its infection can lead to damage of the nervous and respiratory system and can even damage the skin and eyes. The course would initially cover the basic aspects of skin disorders by studying topics such as epidemiology, epidermal skin tumors, tumors of the skin appendages, functions of the skin, gland vessels, and inflammation. The course then moves ahead to cover important topics such as the prenatal diagnosis of skin disorders, developmental defects such as urticaria, naevi, etc, pruritus, cutaneous vasculitis, diseases of the veins and arteries including leg ulcers, histiocytosis, mastocytosis.\

Diploma in dermatology, venereology, and leprosy is a two-year course that can be pursued as an undergraduate degree or a post-graduate degree. The minimum eligibility criteria for the undergraduate degree would be a senior secondary school certification in the science stream with biology and for the postgraduate degree would be a certification in medicine (MBBS) by a central or state board. Career opportunities include employment as a physician in a government or private health care facility. Students also take up private practice and act as consultants in some cases. There is also an opportunity to work as a volunteer in NGOs, to help treat these diseases among the underprivileged.
