Orthopedic surgeons can also elect to perform further training in subspecialties such as hand and upper extremity, shoulder and elbow, total joint reconstruction, pediatric orthopedics, foot and ankle surgery, spine surgery, orthopedic oncologist, surgical sports medicine, orthopedic trauma, hip and knee surgery.

The Master of Surgery - Orthopedics is a specialization that is offered as a post-graduate degree for students with an aptitude for orthopedic surgery. The students applying are required to have a minimum qualification of certification of MBBS from a recognized state or central board of medicine. There are plenty of research opportunities and job scopes in this field of medicine that involve, working as an attending orthopedic surgeon in a hospital of recognized health care centers.
