Psychiatry is the faction of medical science dedicated to diagnosing, preventing, and treating mental illnesses. These involve different instances of failure to adjust to mood related issues, perceptions and cognition. Primary psychiatric evaluation of an individual normally commences with a case record and mental state inspection. Psychological evaluations and physical examinations may be done. In some instants, neuroimaging or other neurophysiological procedures are employed. Sub-specialization in  adolescent  and child psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry ,addiction medicine, etc. can be conducted after MD in Psychiatry. This course equips the scholars to understand, the significance of mental well-being in connection to the health requirements  of the nation , emotional and biological factors that define  mental health , the environmental conditions as determining factors  of mental well-being.The course enables a scholar to conduct appropriate investigative and curative techniques for the psychiatric subject efficiently and with utmost sense of responsibilty. Scholars are made familiar with the notion of quintessential drugs and responsible use of medications ,  the statutory  issues in the practice of psychiatry, the specific demands in the practice of child, adolesecent, adult and geriatric psychiatry. The course curriculum contains topics of study such as psychology, physiology,neurology and neurosurgery,anatomy, biochemistry of the brain,forensic psychiatry, social psychiatry, preventive psychiatry,community psychiatry,child psychiatry and practical training at mental asylums.

MD Psychiatry is a 3 year full time course in India whose eligibility criteria are  MBBS degree and a 1 year mandatory internship/house surgeoncy from any institution approved by the medical council of India. Successful scholars of the program are selected in roles such as clinical psychiatrist, staff psychiatrist,child psychiatrist, forensic psychiatrist, neuropsychiatries, prison psychiatrist, etc.They are hired in domains such as hospitals,  clinics, natural apothecaries, college health centers, etc,  or can even proceed with  private practice.
