Radiology is the faction of medical science that employs radiation based imaging to diagnose and cure conditions inside the bodies of humans. Diverse imaging methods such as ultrasound,  magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), X-ray radiography, nuclear medicine including positron emission tomography (PET),  computerized tomography (CT), fluoroscopy, etc. are used to diagnose various illnesses. Interventional radiology is the execution of normally minimally invasive medical techniques with the help of imaging methodologies such as those named earlier. The contemporary practices of radiology comprise a lot of different wellness care professionals working in tandem. The radiologist is a medical practitioner who has finished the proper MD level education in radiology and evaluates medical images, elucidates their findings to other doctors with the help of a report or in person-to-person, and utilises imaging to conduct minimally invasive medical procedures. A radiographer is qualified for producing subjects’ radiography with X-ray imaging, to identify the specific medical state of the patient. In extension to X-ray, a Radiographer also conducts ultrasounds, MRI and  CT scan for producing radiography. The fundamental theory involved in interventional radiology is to diagnose or cure pathologies, with several minimally invasive techniques as much as feasible. Contemporarily, minimally invasive procedures are being conducted more than in the past These methods are often conducted with the subject fully conscious, with limited or no sedation needed. Interventional radiologists diagnose and cure various diseases, like renal artery stenosis, peripheral vascular disease, gastrostomy tube deployments, inferior vena cava filter placing, hepatic interventions and biliary stents. Radiographic images, ultrasound modalities and fluoroscopy, are used for supervision, and the main apparatus used during the procedure is specifically devised needles and catheters. The visuals give ideas that enable the physician to lead these devices through the body to the regions bearing the abnormal condition. By reducing the physical trauma to the subject, interventions can diminish infection speeds, hospital stays, as well as the duration of rehabilitation.

As part of the curriculum, students are offered advanced insight into subjects such as radiophysics, basic concepts, production of x-rays, and interaction of radiation with matter, radiation detection and measurement, radiography, fluoroscopy, special radiography, computerized tomography, ultrasonography etc. scholars after the completion of MD radiology are equipped to acquire a fundamental understanding of the different sub-specialities of radiology such as neuroradiology, vascular radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, paediatric radiology and imaging of breasts, GI radiology, uroradiology etc. They learn to autonomously handle and understand all custom and specific imaging studies. Students will be enabled to render radiological assistance in an acute crisis of trauma including its medico-legal viewpoints. They are coached to extract evidence, diagnostic traits and constraints of applications of ultrasound, MRI and CT and will be able to explain appropriate cost-effective algorithm of different visual techniques in assigned difficulty settings. The main topics covered as part of the curriculum are,  basic concepts, production of x-rays, computed tomography, ultrasonography interaction of radiation with matter,  radiophysics, and radiation detection and measurement, fluoroscopy etc.
MD Radiology is a 3-year full-time course whose eligibility is an M.B.B.S degree completed along with a 1- year mandatory house surgeoncy. Successful students of the branch are hired in roles such as diagnostic medical sonographer,   radiologist,  MRI technician, ultrasound technician,  CAT and CT scan technologist etc. They are hired in enterprises associated with health, like hospitals, college health centres, natural apothecaries, public health clinics, integrated healthcare clinics etc.
